The last day to purchase a Monthly Pass (July) via this program will be June 20 and the last day to purchase a 10-Ride Ticket will be June 30. This action is part of a continuing effort by Metra to identify ways to reduce expenses. Please see alternate purchasing options here.

Dear Ticket-by-Internet Customer,

Due to declining internet ticket sales, Metra is eliminating the Ticket-by-Internet program – which includes recurring orders and one-time sales of Monthly Passes and 10-Ride Tickets on its website. The last day to purchase a Monthly Pass (July) via this program will be June 20 and the last day to purchase a 10-Ride Ticket will be June 30. This action is part of a continuing effort by Metra to identify ways to reduce expenses.

Metra customers who have recurring website ticket orders or who make occasional one-time website purchases can use the following alternatives:

  • Buy tickets from a ticket agent or ticket vending machine;
  • Use the Ventra App, available for free download from the App Store or Google Play, to buy and display mobile tickets on their smartphone;
  • Take advantage of their employer’s Transit Benefits program (if offered) to use pretax dollars to buy Metra tickets and have them delivered by mail each month.

Thank you for riding Metra

Order 10-Ride Tickets or Monthly Passes online and receive your tickets by mail.  Your tickets will ship within 3 business days after we receive your order. You can even set up a recurring order and we will send them to you each month. One-Way Tickets and Weekend Passes cannot be purchased online.

Metra tickets for any line may be purchased at the downtown stations or at outlying stations where a ticket agent is on duty. On the Metra Electric Line, tickets at non-downtown stations are available through vending machines. All  Metra tickets can also be purchased on your Apple or Android smartphone with the free Ventra App, available in the App Store or Google Play.

Where no ticket agent or vending machine exists, passengers may board the train and purchase a One-Way Ticket with cash from the conductor. However, if an agent is on duty or a vending machine is available and you elect to purchase the ticket on the train, the conductor will charge an additional $5. Avoid the fee by using the Ventra App to buy tickets anytime, anywhere.
