Janice R. Thomas was named the Senior Division Director of Business Diversity & Community Relations in May 2018.
In this role she is responsible for the administrative oversight and management of community relations, the DBE program which includes certification, contract and labor compliance, outreach and the Title VI program. She strives to achieve Metra’s goal of inclusion throughout the organization.
Thomas has more than 19 years of experience in government with a concentration in supplier diversity. She began her career as a compliance coordinator for the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) in 1997. Prior to joining Metra in 2010, she worked for the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) as the minority and female business enterprise coordinator in the purchasing division.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Chicago State University, she is a certified professional public buyer (CPPB), and a professional member of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP). She has also served as an honorary co-chair for the 2009 Minority Business Development Agency-MED Council of Chicago. She is a graduate of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Leadership Program for executive professionals and a graduate of the Eno Transit Senior Executive Program.
