Ms. Cary joined Metra in 1998 as Director, EEO & Employee Relations. In her current role as Sr. Director, EEO/Diversity Initiatives, she manages the daily operations of Metra’s EEO/Diversity Initiatives Department developing corporate-wide strategies to enhance Metra’s diversity initiatives, including equal employment opportunity, diversity training, employee relations and affirmative action.
Ms. Cary is responsible for developing and administering an EEO program in accordance with the mandates and regulations of the Federal Transit Administration, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Illinois Human Rights Act, and various county and city human rights ordinances. She also provides counseling and/or mediation for employees/managers to assist them in resolving internal organizational conflicts.
Prior to joining Metra, Ms. Cary worked as a supervising attorney with the Chicago Housing Authority and as the manager of EEO and Affirmative Action for Brach Candy Corporation. She has also worked in private practice.
Currently, she is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and serves on both the Labor and Employment Law Committee and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. She is also active in the Legal Counseling Ministry through her church.
Ms. Cary earned a B.S. degree, with high honors, in Political Science from Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Ala. She earned a doctorate of jurisprudence from Howard University, Washington D.C.
