Alternate Service Schedules
First Published - 03/19/2020 - 11:56AM
  • Metra is launching a new $10 All-Day Pass on June 1 and strongly encouraging customers to buy it in the Ventra app, giving them a “Touch Less, Pay Less” option to ride its trains safely and affordably. Click here for details.
  • Most Metra lines operating weekend service (except the Metra Electric) have temporarily changed to Sunday schedules for both Saturday and Sunday service. Saturday service on Metra’s SouthWest Service Line is suspended until further notice. The Metra Electric Line will continue to operate Saturday schedules on Saturdays and Sunday schedules on Sunday.
  • On weekdays, Metra is operating an alternate weekday schedule until further notice to adjust for the reduced number of riders due to school closures, work-from-home mandates and other consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Those schedules have been adjusted for some lines, including the North Central Service, Heritage Corridor and SouthWest Service. A new schedule with additional weekday service began on the Metra Electric Line on May 18.
  • Per Gov Pritzker’s Executive Order, please wear a face covering while riding the train. Customers are required to wear a mask or face covering in public places when a six-foot social distance cannot be maintained. Help us keep everyone safe from COVID-19.
  • Please use the Ventra app to purchase tickets. The app can be downloaded free from the App Store or Google Play.

Festival Season Alcohol Restrictions

During the festival season, Metra prohibits glass bottles and alcohol on trains after 7 p.m. or all day on specific dates. No smoking is allowed on any trains, in stations or within 15 feet of station and enclosed area entrances. If you are planning to use our service, please observe these restrictions. Underage drinking on Metra trains will not be tolerated.

Event Date Onboard Glass Container & Alcohol Restrictions

As a reminder, Metra reserves the right to prohibit bicycles and e-scooters if coaches are crowded or access is impeded, and makes no assurances that space will be available. Metra reserves the right to restrict alcohol on dates other than those listed above.

Special Information - Chicago Festivals and Events

The festivals and celebrations in Grant Park and the Lakefront bring many additional passengers to our trains. In the past, this has included some who were prone to excessive revelry.

Dates and restrictions are listed above. No alcoholic beverages or glass bottles will be allowed on Metra trains. Passengers on trains found with alcohol may be removed or arrested. All bags carried into the rail stations or onto the train will be subject to inspection by police personnel. Metra reserves the right to refuse service to any parties who are intoxicated or impaired. Unruly behavior will be not tolerated and all riders are required to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. Those that fail to do so should anticipate that they will be detained and/or arrested.

Metra prides itself in providing safe and efficient transportation. To that end, Metra police officers and off duty municipal police will patrol stations and trains. We intend to maintain a safe travel environment for our customers.

Thank you for your cooperation and choosing Metra for your travel needs.
