Alternate Service Schedules
First Published - 03/19/2020 - 11:56AM

Metra will begin operating an alternate weekday schedule on Monday, March 23, to adjust for the reduced number of riders due to school closures, work-from-home mandates and other consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. The alternate schedules can be viewed here. There will be changes for every line except the Heritage Corridor, which will operate its normal schedule. Where we are able to, we will maintain the number of cars on trains to allow for social distancing. On a line-by-line basis, Metra is monitoring ridership and may further reduce service to meet the ridership demands. The reduced schedules will remain in effect until health officials deem the crisis has passed and/or ridership begins to return to normal. Metra will operate on regular weekend schedules. Please use the Ventra app to purchase tickets. The app can be downloaded free from the App Store or Google Play.

Wacker Drive Reconstruction Project - Madison Street Closure

(June 28, 2011) -
Attention Ogilvie and Union Station passengers:
Following the morning rush hour on July 5, 2011, the Chicago Department of Transportation will close Madison Street between Canal and Franklin, a stretch that includes the bridge over the Chicago River. This street closure is part of the multi-year project to rebuild Wacker Drive and adjoining streets. Pedestrians will not be able to cross the river via Madison Street until late September or early October. Fliers detailing the closure will be passed out along Madison during the morning rush hour July 5.

At Union Station, the Madison Street exit will remain open at all times during the construction project. However, during the first phase of the project, passengers will only be able to exit to the west, to Canal Street, or to the south, along the Riverwalk. Passengers can walk along Canal north to cross the river on Washington Street or along Canal or the Riverwalk south to cross the river on Monroe Street. Passengers will not be able to cross Madison to reach the Riverwalk to the north from the Madison Street exit.
At Ogilvie Transportation Center, passengers who normally use Madison to cross the river will have to walk north to Washington or south to Monroe. The Riverwalk Plaza exit will remain open; however, passengers initially will not be able to cross Madison to reach the Riverwalk to the south. The Riverwalk to the north of Madison will remain open.
This phase of the Wacker project also includes the closing of Wacker Drive for reconstruction between Washington and Monroe. Pedestrians are advised that paths along Wacker will change frequently during the duration of the work.
In addition, 14 CTA bus routes that currently use Madison or Wacker will be changed during the project. Those routes are No. 11 Lincoln/Sedgwick No. 14 Jeffrey Express, No. 19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, No. 56 Milwaukee, No. 60 Blue Island/26th, No. 120 Ogilvie/Wacker , No. 121 Union/Wacker Express, No. 122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, No. 123 Illinois Center/Union Express, No. 124 Navy Pier, No. 125 Water Tower Express, No. 129 West Loop/South Loop, and No 157 Streeterville/Taylor.
