Minor Schedule Changes Proposed for Four Metra Lines

(September 6, 2011) -
Metra is asking its riders to say what they like or don’t like about minor schedule changes that it is proposing to make on four of its lines, primarily so that the schedules more accurately reflect actual operating conditions.
The changes have been proposed for the Milwaukee North, Milwaukee West, SouthWest Service and Heritage Corridor lines. Only certain trains on those lines would see changes. In most cases, the proposed changes adjust a train’s departure times from certain stops or its running times between stations or overall by one to four minutes. Those changes are being proposed to make the schedules more accurate.
In two cases on the Milwaukee North Line, however, train departures would be moved up by 10 minutes. Inbound Train No. 2156, which now departs Fox Lake at 7:25 p.m., would instead depart at 7:15 p.m. to avoid conflicts with outbound Train No. 2143 in a single-track section of the line. Outbound Train No. 2121, which now leaves Union Station at 2:35 p.m., would instead leave at 2:25 p.m. The equipment used for that train turns around at Fox Lake, returns to Union Station and then makes another outbound run, and adding 10 minutes at the beginning of the trip will help keep all segments on time.
Comments about the changes can be made via the online comment form (click on the “Contact Us” link from the homepage), by sending an email to or by calling Metra’s Customer Service number on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 312-322-6777 (Press 7 to talk to a Metra representative).
Comments will be accepted until Sept. 23. A final decision about the proposed changes will be made after all comments have been reviewed.
