Metra will host its 5th Annual On Track to Success Vendor Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 4 to provide contracting information and networking opportunities to current and prospective Metra vendors who are interested in doing business with the agency.
The event, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at VenueSix10, 610 S. Michigan Ave., will include an awards ceremony recognizing businesses that have provided exceptional service to Metra and will showcase those that have become leaders in service and diversity. Attendees will be able to meet and speak with prime contractors, subcontractors, community organizations and other transportation agencies and register as a Metra vendor. There will also be a free educational workshop about the CREATE P2 engineering project, which will help eliminate freight and passenger train conflicts on Metra’s SouthWest Service Line by rerouting the line with a flyover bridge connection to Metra’s Rock Island Line.
“We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in our contracting process, and this vendor fair is one of the main ways we further that goal and celebrate successes,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “We also plan to recognize the many community organizations that have promoted Metra’s business diversity and outreach initiatives.”
Metra’s DBE program was established in 1984. Since that time, the program has made numerous strides in creating a level playing field for small, minority- and women-owned businesses. Over the past 35 years, Metra’s DBE program has sponsored and participated in hundreds of workshops, training sessions and exhibitor fairs that provide access and opportunities throughout Illinois.
