Effective January 1, 2012: Pre-Tax Transit Benefits are set to be Reduced

(December 29, 2011) -
Due to the expiration of the federal Transit Benefits Equity Act, the amount of pre-tax dollars that you can set aside to pay for your transit costs is being cut. As of January 1, 2012, the amount that you can set aside in your paycheck to pay for transit is being reduced from $230 to $125 per month.
With a reduction in benefits, Metra customers who participate in a transit benefit program and use Metra’s ticket-by-Internet service for recurring orders will need to verify that their transit benefit account is adequately funded. This will ensure that your Metra tickets continue to arrive by mail and that you avoid the $3 surcharge for on-board ticket purchases.
Please contact your Employer’s Human Resources Department if you have any questions regarding the changes to the transit benefit program.
