Metra offers a variety of tickets to serve your travel needs. The One-Way and Ten-Ride Tickets are valid for one year from purchase date. Ten Ride Tickets are discounted by 15% and our Monthly tickets which allow unlimited travel between the fare zones indicated on the ticket are discounted by over 30%. One way tickets may be submitted for a full refund. You may also apply for a refund on partially used ten-ride and monthly tickets.
Ten-Ride, tickets may be refunded for one year following date purchased. The refund is calculated on number of rides used times the full price of a one-way ticket. The refund is not based on the pro-rated discounted ticket price. By not using the entire ticket, the discounted price is forfeited. For example: A Zone A to E ticket is purchased for $31.45. It is returned for refund with two rides remaining. The refund is calculated by deducting the price of a one-way ticket $3.70, times the number of rides used, 8. In this example, the cost for rides used equal $26.90 and, therefore, a refund of $1.85 would be issued.
Refunds for monthly tickets are calculated in a similar manner. The postal cancellation date or date received by a ticket agent determines the last date of use. The refund is calculated by applying the lowest combination of fares for the number of weekdays the ticket was in your possession. The refund is not based on the pro-rated discounted ticket price. Although these are unlimited-ride tickets, refunds are based only on weekday usage (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays).
