Metra targets numerous stations each year for repairs and renovations to platforms, stairways, elevators, lighting, waiting rooms, shelters and other areas. In addition, Metra is constantly looking for ways to add or expand parking areas near our stations. The following is a list of current station and/or parking projects.
METRA ELECTRIC
- 211th Street - Plans to replace the platforms and canopy have been let for bidding. Construction is expected to begin fall 2010.
- 79th Street (Cheltenham) - Sidewalk ramp will be modified this summer 2010.
- Calumet - Station improvements includes construction of a new vendor space, a lower level waiting area and washroom facilities is nearly complete.
ROCK ISLAND
- 119th Morgan Park - Reconstruction of platforms is expected to begin in the summer 2010.
- 80th Avenue - Construction to provide a new station building, platforms and shelters is expected to begin in the summer 2010.
- Joliet - Construction of a new 45 space parking lot on Washington Street is expected to begin in the spring.
- Lovana S "Lou" Jones/Bronzeville Station - New station stop at 35th Street and Federal is scheduled for completion in the fall 2010.
- New Lenox - Platform extension project is nearing completion.
SOUTHWEST SERVICE
BNSF Railway
- Aurora - Construction of platforms and station area improvements is nearly complete. The east parking lot and platforms are open for service.
- Belmont - Construction of the new bridge/grade separation is expected to start in the spring and be completed in 2012.
- Berwyn - Construction of parking deck to add more commuter spaces has been completed.
- Berwyn Harlem Ave – Construction to rebuild both platforms and to permanently remove the pedestrian crossing has been completed.
- Brookfield Hollywood – Installation of platform lighting has been completed.
- Cicero - Design plans to renovate the station, platforms, pedestrian tunnel and parking facility is nearing completion.
- Highlands – Renovation of platforms with new tactile and a pedestrian crosswalk is scheduled to begin later in 2010.
- LaGrange Stone Ave – Construction to replace both platforms is currently 45% complete and will resume in the spring. The Village of LaGrange is in the process of designing improvements to the station that will include renovation of the station, outbound shelter and sidewalks.
- LaVergne – Scope includes rebuilding the platforms, lights and shelter. Construction was completed at the end of 2009.
- Lisle – The Village of Lisle intends to install two elevators to allow better ADA access to the station. Construction is expected to begin in 2010.
- Naperville – Replacement of platforms with new precast concrete panels will be bid in March. Construction is expected to start this summer.
MILWAUKEE WEST
- Wood Dale - Construction of the station has been completed. Replacement of platforms lights is expected to begin in the spring.
UNION PACIFIC NORTH LINE
- North Line Bridges - Construction to replace eight bridges and the Ravenswood Station is expected to begin in the fall 2010. Bridges in the scope of this project include: Balmoral, Foster, Winnemac, Lawrence, Leland, Wilson, Sunnyside and Montrose.
- Winnetka – Construction to renovate the station facility will begin in the spring of 2010. This work will include restoration of the depot building, new platforms, six new stairs, new heated platform shelters, new pedestrian bridge and new elevators with enclosed vestibules.
- Winthrop Harbor – Construction of a new shelter and expansion of parking to provide 58 new spaces is nearly complete. Minor work remains and will be completed in the spring of 2010.
UNION PACIFIC WEST LINE
- Elburn - Construction to add 330 commuter parking spaces has been completed. The new spaces are now open for service.
- Maywood – Reconstruction of the south side platform will be completed in 2010.
- West Chicago – Construction to rebuild the platforms and to adjust the depot floor is expected to begin later this year.
UNION PACIFIC NORTHWEST LINE
- McHenry - Platform replacement has been completed.
- Pingree Road – Construction of the new 329 space parking lot was completed and opened for service on December 28, 2009.
MILWAUKEE NORTH
- Ingleside – Construction of 49 new parking spaces has been completed.
- Long Lake – Replacement of platform is expected to begin summer 2010.
- Round Lake – Construction to build 116 new parking spaces was completed in 2009. Reconstruction of platforms is expected to begin in the summer 2010.
Heritage Corridor
- Joliet - Construction to replace center platform and boarding islands is expected to begin May 2010.
- Lockport - Construction to rehabilitate and extend the existing platforms, add lighting and provide sidewalk access to 11th Street is scheduled to begin in the spring 2010.
