Safety is Metra’s number one priority, and that's why we remain proactive in reinforcing the importance of railroad safety with ongoing public awareness activities at schools. As always, we welcome and appreciate any active involvement and support in this effort.
There is a need for reinforcement of safety messages because today’s children are besieged by conflicting messages from their friends, videogames, television and the Internet. Therefore it is critical to keep safety at the forefront of their minds.
For the fifth straight year, Metra is inviting students, teachers and parents to participate in our School Safety Campaign. This year’s initiative again features the distribution of safety posters to elementary schools across the region. These posters were designed by students and represent the winning entries from Metra’s Safety Poster Contest.
Safety Is More Important Than Ever

Western Springs Police Officer, Daniel Stevens was instrumental in producing the Public service announcement, “Safety Is More Important Than Ever” featuring Metra’s CEO, Alex Clifford reaffirming his commitment to rail safety.

Operation Lifesaver Train Safety Awareness Program Metra’s Operation Lifesaver Train Safety Awareness Program is a comprehensive train safety program that educates children and adults of the dangers of Metra’s At-Grade crossings and Trespassing along the many miles of our railroads Right-of-way.
Metra’s Operation Lifesaver Presenters conduct approximately 950 free presentations a year to school age children, ranging in ages from pre-school to 18 years, community groups, school bus drivers, professional truck drivers, emergency responders and other organizations throughout our service area.
This program was cited by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) as an industry best practice.
Operation Lifesaver presentations also continue to be offered. To schedule a presentation, or to find out more, contact Larry Green at 312-735-9735
We hope to work together as a community to support parents and educators as they teach our children that obeying safety laws is a matter of life and death. We at Metra are pleased to continue assisting schools in this important endeavor.
