With the removal of the turnstile gates, ticketing practices on Metra Electric will now be identical to the rest of the Metra system. Effective February 1, 2004, Metra Monthly tickets will only be honored until noon of the first business day of the new month. This will allow time to purchase a Monthly ticket that day before the return trip home. When tickets can be purchased from a ticket agent or from a vending machine, customers should do so prior to boarding the train. Tickets purchased on board the train are subject to a $2.00 service charge for each ticket purchased. Multiple vending machines will be installed at most stations to insure that customers have an opportunity to purchase tickets prior to boarding. If there is a problem with available vending machines, please inform on-board personnel. Beginning with April Monthly tickets, paper tickets identical to those used on the diesel lines will be used on Metra Electric. These tickets are designed to indicate the gender of the authorized user. Given the substantial discount provided by the monthly pass, they are for the exclusive use of that individual and are not transferable. Some Suggestions: Our convenient monthly Ticket-By-Mail program allows you to receive your ticket at home or your place of business before the start of each month. Applications are available at downtown stations or click here to fill one out. Our Ticket-By-Internet page is helpful for ordering Monthly and Ten-Ride tickets at any time of day or night. Other Important Information: Metra Electric customers who purchase their tickets from the electronic ticket vending machines also will notice that the machines have been upgraded to give change up to $18 for purchases made with bill denominations of $1, $5, $10 and $20. The change will be given in dollar coins.
