Oak Lawn station and parking deck dedicated
CHICAGO, Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - Officials from the Village of Oak Lawn and Metra joined together today to dedicate the new commuter station and parking deck at 96th Street and 51st Avenue in Oak Lawn, along the Metra's SouthWest Service route.
The new station includes a 2,880-square-foot brick depot, 3,200-square feet of outdoor covered areas, and two drop-off locations. The project also featured a five-level parking deck with more than 800 spaces. Other amenities include benches, visual and audio information systems, signs, lighting, and extensive landscaping.
Metra provides commuter rail service between the downtown Chicago business district and 226 stations in northeast Illinois communities over 11 routes totaling approximately 500 miles of service territory. Metra operates 700 weekday trains, providing 290,000 passenger trips.
