Metra announces special holiday fares, schedules
Chicago, Dec. 12, 2005 - Metra will extend its popular "Family Fares" program to all weekdays from Monday, Dec. 19 through Friday, Dec. 30. Also, during the Christmas and New Year's holiday weekends, Metra's weekend passes will be good an extra day on the Monday following both holidays.
Normally available only on weekends and major holidays, the Family Fares program allows up to three children under the age of 12 to ride free with one fare-paying adult. Family Fares will be good on all trains for the last two weeks of December, except on inbound morning rush hour trains scheduled to arrive in downtown Chicago before 9:30 a.m.
For the last two weekends of the month, the $5 weekend pass normally good for unlimited travel on Saturday and Sunday will include Monday. For example, a weekend ticket bought on Christmas Eve, Saturday, Dec. 24, would be good on Sunday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Dec. 26. The same applies for a weekend pass bought on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31.
On both those Mondays, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, all Metra lines will operate with Sunday/Holiday schedules.
As in previous years on New Year's Eve, no alcoholic beverages will be allowed on Metra trains after 7 p.m.
For complete schedule information call Metra Passenger Services at (312) 322-6777 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays or call the RTA Travel Information Center anytime at 836-7000 from any area code city or suburbs.
