New Crystal Lake Pingree Road commuter station and stop opened

CHICAGO, Wednesday, September 7, 2005 - Officials from Crystal Lake and Metra joined together today to dedicate an all-new commuter station at 570 Congress Pkwy. (at Pingree Rd.) along Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line from Harvard.

The $7.6 million station includes a 2,000-square-foot depot that includes a pedestrian tunnel under the railroad tracks. Other amenities include inbound and outbound platforms, a wheelchair accessible ramp, bicycle racks, and landscaping. The parking project features 400 parking spaces with room for future expansion to 1,700 spaces.

A slightly revised Union Pacific Northwest Line timetable went into effect Sept. 4 to accommodate commuter service at Pingree Road, which is served by 45 trains each weekday.

Metra provides commuter rail service between the downtown Chicago business district and 226 stations in northeast Illinois communities over 11 routes totaling approximately 500 miles of service territory. Metra operates 700 weekday trains, providing 292,000 passenger trips.
